Farella Braun + Martel IT Department Honored with International Legal Technology Association's Distinguished Peer Awards

Shirley Crow and Gillian Glas recognized as ILTA members who have delivered great business value and transformational impact through their innovations and implementations

SAN FRANCISCO, CA, September 21, 2011 /Law and Legal PR News/ -- Farella Braun + Martel's Shirley Crow and Gillian Glass have been recognized by the International Legal Technology Association (ILTA) with 2011 Distinguished Peer Awards. Crow and Glass were presented with their awards during a ceremony held in conjunction with the organization's annual education conference, ILTA 2011, on August 25 in Nashville.

The Distinguished Peer Award program recognizes ILTA members who have delivered great business value and transformational impact through their innovations and implementations. Inaugurated in 2010, the program provides a forum for a diverse group of peer-nominated, peer-judged innovations in technology.

"On behalf of ILTA, I'd like to congratulate this year's Distinguished Peer Award winners," said Randi Mayes, executive director of ILTA. "We are proud to recognize exceptional technology projects and the champions of those projects, and I applaud and celebrate our winners for sharing their successes."

Crow is Farella's chief information officer. She was recognized for her leadership accomplishments and involvement in ILTA as the South Pacific region vice president and for serving her ILTA region by providing information to members, collaborating with other alliances and promoting educational and networking opportunities with members and their peers, all while supporting the organization's core values.

Glass, who serves as practice support and records manager at Farella, took home the Risk and Records Management Champion Award. Glass was recognized for her firm contributions that include implementation of a successful records destruction procedure, a project that has saved Farella thousands of dollars in offsite storage costs. She was also lauded for her involvement in converting Farella's records management system, implementing software that will enable parallel management of the firm's electronic and paper records.

"So much of legal service depends upon the capture, organization, retrieval and communication of information and knowledge; technology is a major factor in the quality, speed, efficiency and value of legal services that are provided to clients," said Crow. "ILTA's services, educational opportunities and programming have been invaluable to our firm's IT professionals and have helped us achieve excellence in technology usage. I have thoroughly enjoyed serving ILTA in a leadership capacity and am honored by this award.'

Added Glass, "The application of inventive, forward-thinking technology to the practice of law is one that does not always seem obvious or happen organically. However, the end result of this endeavor can yield incredible results."

For more than three decades, ILTA has led the way in sharing knowledge and experience for those faced with challenges in their firms and legal departments. ILTA's international membership comprises 14,000 individuals representing more than 1,300 firms of all sizes and areas of practice, each sharing a common need to have access to the latest information about products and support services that impact the legal profession worldwide.
